Company History

At Anointment, we’ve always felt that what goes on your body is as important as what goes in it. For that reason, we take a lot of care to select what goes in our products.

We make our soaps and body care products in small batches, by hand, the old fashioned way. This way, we can ensure product quality and attention to detail.

Anointment was founded in 2001 by Anastasia Manolakos, who brought her interests of whole foods cooking and nutrition to also include making her own natural cosmetics. Arriving at the Halifax Farmer’s Market in 2002, Anointment gained a reputation for high-quality handmade soaps and skin ointments along with a loyal following. Anastasia successfully built a wonderful reputation for Anointment and was a fixture at the Halifax Farmer’s Market until 2009.

With a passion for natural living and a long-time love of the products, April MacKinnon acquired the business in 2009, receiving in depth training from Anastasia and drawing on her own personal knowledge and interest in natural healing. Working with professionals in many disciplines, including naturopaths and aromatherapists, Anointment continues to develop products that set a very high standard for promoting your body’s natural ability to heal.
